Rates and Insurance

My rate is $120 per 50-minute session.

I do not charge a higher rate for the Initial Intake session or for couple or family sessions. Fees are due at the end of each session; cash or personal checks are are preferred, and Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover are also accepted.

There are options available to help manage your counseling expense:

You may pre-pay for a “package” of sessions
Clients normally pay $120 for their sessions at the end of each appointment.  However, some clients choose to pre-pay, at a discounted rate, for a package of either 5 or 10 sessions.  All pre-paid appointments may be scheduled at the time of payment, or on a session-by-session basis.  If your therapy progresses more quickly than anticipated, any unused pre-paid sessions are fully refunded.

Package

5 sessions (50 minutes each)
10 sessions (50 minutes each)

Individual Per Session Rate

$600 ($120 x 5 sessions)
$1200 ($120 x 10 sessions)

Package Rate

$560 ($112 x 5 sessions)
$1080 ($108 x 10 sessions)

You may schedule sessions every other week
Counseling appointments are most commonly scheduled either weekly or every other week. Some clients, due to the nature or severity of their issues, need or prefer to meet weekly, at least initially.  However, some clients are able to meet every other week without jeopardizing their progress or the effectiveness of their counseling.  In many cases it is often more beneficial to spread sessions out every other week, giving clients more time to implement and assess changes they are making.  Every-other-week sessions allow clients to effectively cut their monthly counseling expense in half compared to weekly sessions. I am glad to discuss with you—both at the outset and throughout the course of therapy—the optimal frequency of sessions for your particular situation.

Insurance

I am an out-of-network provider with insurance companies and I do not bill any insurance company directly. If you have mental health benefits and your insurance policy covers out-of-network providers, your insurance may provide some level of reimbursement directly to you for your counseling expense. Your counseling expense may also be eligible for payment from medical spending or health savings accounts, and may count toward your deductible. However, because policies vary so widely, I cannot guarantee that your policy will reimburse any portion of your expense. Any possible reimbursement is between you and your insurance company, and you remain responsible for all counseling charges incurred.

If you wish to use your insurance, you will want to check with your company directly to verify coverage. After services are rendered and paid, I can provide a statement that containing the information and codes that most insurance companies require for reimbursement. Many insurance companies require a medically necessary mental health diagnosis for reimbursement, and they often do not reimburse for counseling where the primary focus is relational concerns such as parenting, family, or marital issues. This is why I keep my rates as low as possible, as many of my clients come to counseling to address issues that are not necessarily "medically necessary" or reimbursable. If a mental health diagnosis is present, it can of course be documented and serve as the focus of a client's individual and relational counseling as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding possible use of your insurance; I will do everything I can to guide you through the process of communicating with your insurance company if you wish to explore that option.
